GM Canada Sales Decline 8.8% in October; Buick Sales Up 21.9%

General Motors Canada reported sales of 21,219 vehicles in October across its four brands, a year-over-year decline of 8.8%.

Buick was the sole GM brand to post a sales increase in October, delivering a 21.9% year-over-year increase with 1,759 units delivered. Chevrolet sales fell 7.6% at 11,891 units delivered, Cadillac sales fell 16.8% at 967 units delivered, and GMC sales fell 15.4% at 6,602 units delivered.

“2016 is a year of excitement and transition for Buick with strong sales in SUVs, one of the fastest-growing segments in the industry,” said GM Canada Vice President of Sales, Service, and Marketing John Roth. “Total sales for Buick SUVs grew by 33% year-over-year with the all-new Envision, Encore, and Enclave driving the growth. Quality ranks as one of the top reasons customers choose Buick and with industry-leading owner satisfaction, performance and safety features, there’s never been a better time to take a fresh look at Buick’s range of premium SUVs and cars.”

Buick’s sales increased on the strength of a 31.8% year-over-year increase for the Encore, 24% increase for the Verano, and sales totaling 122 units for the new Envision.

Other highlights for GM include a 3.9% increase for the GMC Canyon, 33.2% increase for the Yukon, 20.1% increase for the Yukon XL, 46% increase for the Chevrolet Malibu, 52% increase for the Colorado, 464.7% increase for the Spark, 66% increase for Volt, and sales totaling 435 units for the new Cadillac XT5 crossover.

Through 10 months, GM Canada’s sales are down 1% at 220,689 units sold.
