GM Custom Car Covers Provide Optimal Protection
GM is partnering with CoverCar, anItaly-based Confezioni Andrea S.r.l., to create tailored-fitted custom covers for their vehicles to replace the plastic wrap commonly used to protect vehicles during shipping. The GM custom car covers will be easy to install and remove, and will better protect cars during the lengthy shipping process which can span thousands of miles, harsh weather conditions, and time at a port and on a ship.
Cars like the Corvette Stingray, Cadillac ELR, Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Sierra HD already leave GM assembly plants in hand-made covers that fit like a glove, for the very best protection. GM’s partnership with CoverCar will expand this kind of protection to the Chevrolet Malibu and Volt and Opel Ampera extended-range electric vehicles, and eventually will be an option for all GM facilities worldwide.
“These covers address an important part of the customer experience, ensuring that vehicles delivered thousands of miles away appear as though they just rolled off the assembly line,” said Noel Hunt, GM manager of international quality, in a recent news release.
CoverCar set up operations in Southeast Michigan to work closely with GM last year, measuring the Corvette, the ELR ,and GM’s redesigned lineup of full-size trucks for custom covers. Hunt estimates approximately 100,000 vehicles will use the GM custom car covers.
