Because it’s probably been just a little bit too long since you’ve heard about a trademark application filed by General Motors, you’ll be incredibly excited to learn that a standard character mark seems to portend a new trim for the upcoming 2016 Chevy Cruze.

The trademark for Cruze Premier, filed April 22nd, shouldn’t come as too terrible a surprise to those following along with changes made to Chevrolet’s lineup. The LTZ trim level is being phased out across the Chevrolet lineup in favor of the new Premier label, and thus, it stands to reason that there will be some iteration of the Cruze to wear the Premier name.

The new 2016 Cruze will be the first model to ride upon the D2xx global platform and will play host to a number of new Ecotec engines. It’s expected to be lighter and sportier, and it will utilize a new, seven-speed DCT.

As of yet, there is no word as to when the 2016 Cruze will debut and when it is scheduled to arrive in showrooms. Stay tuned.
