I’m sure that Fort Wayne is a fine city, but at the same time, its residents are probably not accustomed to receiving too many superlatives.

It is, after all, only the second largest city in the state of Indiana. Arguably its most famous resident, Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas, was CEO of only the third biggest fast food hamburger chain in the United States. And the town’s Minor League Baseball team, the TinCaps, is presently last in the Midwest League Eastern standings.

But the citizens of Fort Wayne finally finished first in at least one category, as the General Motors Fort Wayne Truck Assembly plant today was recognized as delivering the highest-ranked automotive manufacturing quality in the Americas in 2017.

The honor was bestowed upon the GM Fort Wayne facility by JD Power, which awarded the plant with its prestigious JD Power Gold Plant Quality Award.

The manufacturing facility currently builds the Chevy Silverado and Silverado HD and the GMC Sierra and Sierra HD.

“Our team builds the most exceptional full-size trucks in the business, assembling each vehicle as if it were our very own,” said Michael Thomas, Fort Wayne Assembly plant manager. “The men and women at Fort Wayne Assembly put the customer at the center of everything they do. Our customers can be assured that they have invested in a truck that will both delight and safely transport them and their loved ones for years.”

In addition to the plant quality award bestowed upon GM Fort Wayne, the facility’s 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and Silverado HD earned Initial Quality segment awards from JD Power.

Fort Wayne Assembly began producing GM vehicles in 1986, and today employs 3,900 UAW Local 2209 members.
