GM Foundation Earns Social Responsibility Award from Scholarship America

Scholarship America has bestowed its prestigious Social Responsibility award upon the General Motors Foundation for its commitment to improving access to affordable college education through its Buick Achievers Scholarship Program.
Scholarship America presented the award to GM Global Public Policy executive director Greg Martin at its first-ever From Dreams to Degrees event, which was held Tuesday, May 21st at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.
“Through programs like the Buick Achievers Scholarship, we’ve made a lasting difference in the lives of thousands of students through more than $27 million in scholarships,” said Martin.
The award was given to Martin by two recent college graduates and former Buick Achievers Scholars, Morgan Grayned of Hampton University and Zineb Bouzouba of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Both benefited from scholarships covering up to $25,000 a year for their four-year undergrad studies.
“This scholarship completely transformed my life,” said Grayned. “Growing up I had no idea if I was ever going to be able to afford college. But thanks to the Buick Achievers Scholarship, my dreams, and my family’s dreams, became reality.”
The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program was originally launched in 2011 as a means to support and encourage students studying in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields or in programs germane to the automotive industry. In 2014, it spread $2.5 million to students in America through 100 scholarships.
