This week, it was revealed that General Motors’ current vice president of global quality, Grace Lieblein, has opted to retire at the end of 2015. According to an internal memo from December 1st, Lieblein’s replacement will be announced at a later date.

Lieblein was named GM’s Vice President Global Purchasing in 2012, where she has been responsible for General Motors’ global purchasing activities and supply chain and logistics operations. Lieblein was named the 2014 Engineer of the Year in October 2014 at the 26th Annual HENAAC Conference, and a month later, she was named the new Vice President, Global Quality.

Lieblein has spent much of the past year in her role working closely with GM CEO Mary Barra in improving brand perception and ensuring quality for all GM brands in all of its markets worldwide. Last month, Lieblein was named one of Automotive News’ 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry, and she was named one of the 10 Most Powerful Women in Automotive in 2013.

“Whether launching new vehicles, running global operations or driving home quality for our customers, Grace has always built and led high-performing, results-driven teams,” Barra said in the memo. “Throughout her career, she has sought out and accepted tough assignments” and “challenged the status quo.”

Lieblein’s replacement should be announced prior to or shortly after the start of 2016.
