The 2015 Spark EV was chosen for the GM and Google ride sharing pilot program.

The recently announced GM and Google ride-sharing pilot program partnership will use the 2015 Chevrolet Spark EV, chosen for its “small footprint.” The pilot program will take place in Mountain View, California, at Google’s really cool campus that everyone and their mother want to work at.

“This learning pilot combines commuting data, analytics, telematics, navigation and smartphones to run a smart, real-time system that mixes and matches drivers, riders and cars during morning and evening commutes,” GM reported. “Convenience through door-to-door service and flexible scheduling are key goals.”

According to GM’s sustainability report, GM has installed sensors in its most used parking decks at its Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. This campus has a growing lack of parking. Employees are now utilizing an app to locate available parking spaces, with the goal of saving time and fuel.

Also contained in the report is GM’s continued commitment to getting at least 500,000 vehicles on the road that are powered, one way or another, by electric energy, by the year 2017. The Chevy Volt and the Spark EV, and the Cadillac ELR, are the biggest steps that the automaker has taken thus far.
