This past Sunday was the 36th annual Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank Marathon, and to help the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans get ready for the race, General Motors put on a technical workshop the day prior with the help of students from the Michigan Technological University.

“This team is truly an inspiration to us, and my work with the Achilles Freedom Team has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” said Mark Degnan, GM North America dealer audit director.

The workshop, held at the GM Wintergarden, allowed student athletes the opportunity to fine-tune the athletes’ hand cycles for the race ahead. And it worked like a charm; retired US Army Staff Sergeant Tom Davis won the handcyclist race for an impressive third year in a row in an even more impressive 1:12.38. He was followed by his teammates Omar Duran and Helman Roman, who finished in second and seventh place.

GM has been working with the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans since 2010.
