GM India celebrates World Environment Day on June 5 in Pune and Bangalore

To recognize World Environment Day on June 5th, General Motors engaged in organizing community outreach activities across the globe, which promoted environmental safety and conservation. GM employees the world over participated activities such as tree plantation, water conservation, plastic-free awareness initiatives, and lake restoration, just to name a few.

GM India was part of that worldwide push, with the company’s Talegaon facility rolling out a series of activities and encouraging its employees to partake in the Green Initiative. In keeping with the global theme of ‘Connecting with Nature’, the pathway lights at the Talegaon office were turned green and all the employees wore green wristbands bearing the message “I’m with Nature.” GM India Talegaon also organized Tree Plantation Drive and PUC service camps on the plant premises, while the Talegaon team organized an outreach activity that promoted the usage of paper bags by distributing 500 paper bags.

As part of the partnership, over 60 GM India Talegaon employees went to Purandar Village in Pune to practice sustainable rain-water harvesting techniques.

Since 2016, GM India’s TC-I, Bangalore has been working towards Lakes and Lake Maintenance awareness, and as part of World Environment Day, solicited 150 participants to help clean the famous Chinnappanahalli Lake engage in activities like deweeding, pruning, and planting saplings in and around the lake

GM India has been consistent in working to further the cause of environmentalism. Last year, the company made three of the operations at its Talegaon facility landfill free, and was also awarded the Wildlife Habitat Conservation Certification under GM’s 2020 sustainability goal.
