GM Investing $127.4 Million into Bedford Casting Operations
General Motors has announced a new $127.4 million investment at its Bedford Casting Operations facility in Indiana. The investment will cover powertrain and structural components to be used in the creation of new aluminum engine blocks and components, and will consequently create as many as 127 new jobs.
Bedford Casting Operations currently employs 719 individuals across three shifts in the production of transmission casings, converter housings, heads, and small gas engine blocks for Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles. The plant originally opened in 1942 and is located about 25 minutes south of Bloomington, Indiana.
“This investment in the future recognizes the excellent workforce at Bedford Casting Operations” said Bedford Casting Operations Plant Manager Lamar Rucker. “It also demonstrates GM’s collaboration with our UAW and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers partners, which reflects how we continue to bring new powertrain solutions to our customers.”
General Motors has invested more than $426 in Bedford since 2010 alone, including a $48.4 million investment for Ecotec engine component production in 2014 and $111 million in April 2010 for the addition of a semi-permanent mold cylinder head casting line for V6 and V8 engines.
