GM Invests $175 Million into Lansing Plant to Prep for Camaro
GM announced a $175 million investment in its Lansing Grand River plant, which produces the ATS and CTS, to gear up for Camaro production this summer
GM’s Lansing Grand River plant currently produces the Cadillac ATS and the Cadillac CTS, but it will soon play host to the recently unveiled 2016 Chevy Camaro as well. As the automaker prepares for the muscle car’s arrival, it is investing a whopping $175 million into the plant to make sure it is ready.
Currently, the plant only runs one shift, but General Motors will be adding a second shift and 500 employees to produce the Camaro. Production will start later this summer.
While $175 million may sound like more money than you’d know what to do with, it’s nothing in comparison to the overall $5.4 billion that General Motors is using to upgrade 40 factories here in the US. The Lansing update is just a small part of this.
“With this investment in tooling and equipment, we will continue to do our part to build on the high-quality reputation of this iconic car,” commented Scott Whybrew, GM North American manufacturing manager. “These investments in the Lansing plants are proof of the teams’ quality commitment, to put the customer at the center of everything we do!”
The Camaro debuted on Saturday, May 16th, despite the fact that there had been several leaks the day prior.
