Chevrolet fans can now dream about coats of many colors on Corvettes being rendered more vividly and efficiently than ever before.

A new paint shop will be built at the Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The paint shop will feature new tools and robots, as well as a slew of innovations for ensuring optimally sharp finishes, while saving on energy costs.

General Motors is investing $439 million in the project, part of $5.4 billion that GM said it would allocate to facility investments in the United States over the next three years.

If Prince was crooning about a little red Corvette today, he’d have to distinguish between Torch Red and Crystal Red Tintcoat – two of the ten options for the paint coat of the 2015 Corvette Z06.

The Bowling Green plant, which has been producing Corvettes since 1981, currently employs 874 workers, according to GM. This new investment will help retain 150 jobs at the plant.

United Automobile Workers Vice President Cindy Estrada praised the move as a step forward for Chevrolet’s production process.

“This new paint shop will mirror the efficiencies and technologies of the new body shop, installed with the launch of the Stingray,” Estrada said. “Hardworking UAW members have proudly built vehicles in Bowling Green for more than 30 years, and we are pleased to be a part of such a significant facility upgrade.”
