In celebration, the folks over at Fast Lane listed out 9 ways that GM Kokomo Operations is actively working to reduce its environmental footprint. Check ‘em out:

  • Reducing energy intensity: The site replaced high-intensity discharge lighting with fluorescent fixtures, which reduce energy consumption.
  • Instructing local students: Employees at GM Kokomo Operations engage students in the area by teaching them about water quality.
  • Saving water: The employees don’t just teach about water; they also save it, by consolidating water production operations in one place.
  • Remaining landfill-free: GM Kokomo Operations sends zero waste to landfills.
  • Recycling the easy way: Almost all of the site’s recycled materials are processed at one location.
  • Reclaiming heat: The site reclaims heat from cooling tower water to be used to preheat water used around the facility.
  • Supporting local habitats: GM Kokomo’s pollinator garden provides a habitat for a number of wildlife.
  • Empowering employees: The facility makes use of signs and other forms of education to alert its employees as to how they can save energy on the job.
  • Forming key partnerships: GM Kokomo Operations is partnered with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to stay better committed to the environment.
