General Motors Korea reported total sales of 34,535 vehicles in October, including 26,863 vehicles exported to markets around the globe and 7,672 vehicles sold domestically. Domestic sales were down 54.2% year-over-year from October 2016’s record, but sales of the Trax were up 53.1% at 959 vehicles delivered.

“GM Korea has refreshed our sales strategy to strengthen our performance in the domestic market in November,” said Dale Sullivan, GM Korea vice president of Vehicle Sales, Service, and Marketing. “We have pulled ahead our year-end promotions to this month to offer the biggest benefits to our customers in advance. We encourage local car buyers to take advantage of this opportunity.”

GM Korea Road Safety Workshop

Sales aside, GM Korea had an active month in October in terms of outreach. Chevrolet conducted a road safety workshop on October 28th at Buheung Elementary School to teach safety rules to some 600 students.

“The Chevrolet brand aims to be a leader in creating a safe transportation culture to ensure daily road safety, going beyond simply supplying safe cars,” said GM Korea Vice President of Corporate Affairs Jina Hwang. “The auto brand will continue to make efforts to make a safe transportation culture take root in order to protect both drivers and pedestrians.”

GM Korea Employee Foundation Coal Briquettes

On the same day, the GM Korea Employee Foundation and more than 100 volunteers—including GM Korea employees and family members, delivered 3,000 coal briquettes to low income households and homebound seniors. The foundation is planning to deliver an additional 27,000 briquettes to homes in Incheon, Gunsan, and Boryeong.

“We decided to donate briquettes purchased through the generosity of our employees to our neighbors struggling to pay heating bills in winter,” said Sangweon Kim, director of GM Korea. “The foundation will continue to carry out programs, including kimchi donations and briquette deliveries, to help underprivileged neighbors stay warm in winter.”

2018 Paralympic Winter Games

Two days prior to the initial delivery of coal briquettes, the GM Korea Employee Foundation also donated two Chevrolet Orlando vehicles to the Korean national team for use in the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games. These vehicles will be used to move the equipment of athletes Eui-hyun Sin and Yu-min Won during training.

“The GM Korea Employee Foundation has donated more than 500 vehicles to social welfare facilities and organizations across the country over the last 12 years, including those for the Paralympic team,” said Hwang, who is also secretary general of the foundation. “I hope that the vehicles will help the athletes improve their skills, and all GM Korea employees, including me, support athletes on the national teams.”

Through October, GM Korea’s sales total 436,515 vehicles, including 110,176 domestic sales and 326,339 export sales.
