General Motors Korea reported combined sales of 42,543 vehicles in the month of November, down 19.8% from sales totaling 53,042 in November 2016. Domestic sales totaled 10,349 vehicles, which was up 34.9% month-over-month but down 40% year-over-year from 2016’s total of 17,236 vehicles delivered. Export sales totaled 32,194 vehicles, down 10.1% from November 2016’s total of 35,806 vehicles.

Despite GM Korea’s continued talks, and rumblings that the automaker may ultimately depart from the South Korean market altogether, GM Korea Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service, and Marketing took a more positive tone in focusing on the source of month-over-month domestic sales gains and looking ahead to December.

“The effective year-end promotion and trust of consumer generated positive sales,” said Sullivan. “GM Korea prepared sales promotion in December that offers the best benefit of this year, while continuing to expand our Smart Test Drive Centers to enable consumers to experience our products more conveniently.”

GM Korea notes that the Chevrolet Cruze saw a 176.4% month-over-month sales increase at 821 units delivered, thanks to the launch of the Cruze Diesel. Also seeing month-over-month growth were the Spark, up 17.9%; Malibu, up 25%; and Trax, up 46.1%. Orlando and Impala combined for a 64% increase.

After 11 months, GM Korea’s sales total 479,058 vehicles, down 12% from 542,884 vehicles sold by this point in 2016. Domestic sales total 120,525 vehicles, and export sales total 358,533 vehicles.
