GM launches Maven car-sharing program

General Motors’ fast-growing ride-share service Maven City just arrived in Toronto. Now, whenever residents of Canada’s largest city need a vehicle, they can use Maven’s app to reserve one.

Already available in more than a dozen cities across North America, Maven offers Canada’s largest city access to 40 vehicles, including the Chevrolet Cruze, Malibu, Tahoe, Trax, and Volt; GMC Acadia and Yukon; and Cadillac ATS and XT5.

“Toronto has a unique spirit. Residents are constantly on the go and want more sharing and mobility options,” said Julia Steyn, vice president of General Motors Urban Mobility and Maven. “Maven offers cars Torontonians want to drive to help them be there for the moments that matter.”

Maven’s app allows users to easily locate, reserve, and unlock their vehicles. Rates start at $9 an hour (CAD), with gas and insurance included (minus a deductible). Each technology-loaded car features OnStar, Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with SiriusXM Radio.

GM says each shared vehicle removes 10 private cars from the road, and car-share users are also more likely to use other options, such as bikes, walking, or public transportation.

Parking locations for Maven vehicles have been carefully chosen to line up with Toronto’s most in-demand destinations, including Bloor West Village, Liberty Village, King West, The Entertainment District, City Place, Yonge/Eglinton, Leslieville, Ryerson University, The Danforth, Financial District, Little Italy, and Eaton Centre.

According to GM, Maven’s car-sharing services have drawn in more than 110,000 members, who have combined to drive more than 240,000 miles.
