GM military discount for Chevy Buick and GMC models

Today General Motors announced that in honor of Independence Day, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC will all be expanding their military discount programs through July 8, 2016. All 21 million US military veterans and their spouses are eligible for the savings.

“Making sure all veterans can take advantage of our military discount throughout the Independence Day holiday weekend is one small way we can express our gratitude for their service,” said Chevy executive Steve Hill.

GM’s automotive military discount program is usually made available to US military veterans within one year of separation, active-duty personnel, reservists, retirees, and their spouses. The program was expanded to include all veterans (and their spouses) in May, as a way to honor National Military Appreciation. The discount can also be combined with most current incentives, meaning veterans can potentially save thousands of dollars on some vehicles. “The Military Discount is one of many ways GM is thanking U.S. military families,” said Ken Barrett, GM’s chief diversity officer and a former Navy captain. “Through our strong partnerships with Building for America’s Bravest, Hiring Our Heroes and the Achilles Freedom Team, we are committed to hiring and helping veterans.”

GM has a long history of supporting the US military, including directing 90% of its truck production toward WWI manufacturing in 1917, and converting all of its plant facilities to support FDR’s “Arsenal of Democracy” during WWII. The automaker claims to have produced more US military vehicles than any other manufacturer in history.

Just this year, GM was the only automaker named a “Best for Vets” employer by Military Times and a “Military Spouse Friendly” employer by Military Spouse magazine.
