New GM Chief Compliance Officer Jeffrey A. Taylor

Today, General Motors announced the appointment of 51-year-old Jeffrey A. Taylor to the position of Deputy General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer. According to a statement from GM, Taylor will report to Craig Glidden, the executive vice president and general counsel.

The new role makes Taylor responsible for GM’s ethics and compliance program, and the company says he will also support the automaker’s business operations and leadership team in “driving business success through an organizational culture committed to integrity, ethical conduct, workplace and vehicle safety and compliance with the law and company policies.”

Taylor will also oversee the strategy, communications, and training concerning “Winning with Integrity,” the GM code of conduct that dictates the legal and ethical obligations of GM’s Board, executives, and 75,000-plus employees around the world.

In his capacity as Chief Compliance Officer, Taylor will be in charge of a global team of attorneys and compliance professionals who are responsible for analyzing and mitigating risk, creating and implementing compliance training and assessment, assuring the compliance program’s effectiveness, and conducting internal and external investigations.

“Jeff is a highly accomplished attorney who has managed extremely complex legal issues,” said Craig Glidden. “His appointment reflects GM’s commitment to the highest levels of global ethics and the strict compliance with the law and internal policies.”

Taylor joined GM as Deputy General Counsel for Federal Oversight in November of last year. Prior to that, Taylor was vice president and general counsel of Massachusetts-based Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems.

Other prior career accomplishments include being chief executive of Ernst & Young’s Fraud Investigation and Dispute Services practice in the America, serving as the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia from 2006 to 2009, and serving as Counselor to Attorney Generals John D. Ashcroft and Alberto R. Gonzales.
