GM Orders 1,000 Additional Chevy SS Sedans for the US Market
Despite receiving significant praise from many automotive reviewers, the Chevy SS sedan hasn’t sold well in the US

General Motors has only sold 2,148 Chevy SS sedans in the United States since the model first became available in 2013, but with production of this car set to end and consumer demand growing for the soon-to-be collector’s item, GM has made a surprising move and ordered an additional 1,000 SS sedans to be built and then shipped to the US.
The 2017 Chevrolet SS is basically a rebadged version of the Holden VFII Commodore and this order will have a direct impact on the folks who work at Holden’s Elizabeth factory in Adelaide, Australia. Because of this recent order, redundancies at the factory will fall from 320 to 280 workers in October, but this will take place two weeks later than expected in order for the Chevy SS models to be completed. This delay will also provide some of those workers with added time to look for new jobs.
It was rumored earlier this year that the 2017 Chevrolet SS could get a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine for its final year of availability, but that report has not been confirmed. However, even if the car doesn’t get a supercharged V8, the regular engine used in the Chevy SS is still plenty powerful. Extracted from the previous-generation Corvette, the SS sedan comes standard with an LS3 V8 motor, which provides 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque.
Other notable features that can be found on the Chevy SS include magnetic ride control, high-performance Brembo brakes, a dual-mode exhaust, and 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels. In addition, consumers have the choice between a standard six-speed automatic or available six-speed manual transmission.
Thanks to all of that high-quality performance equipment, the Chevy SS can rocket from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds. That’s not too bad for a vehicle that looks more similar to a Subaru Legacy than the new Chevy Camaro.
