GM Partners With Isuzu for Low Cab Forward Chevy Trucks
General Motors announced on Monday that it has agreed to a deal that will make GM and Isuzu Motors partners in commercial vehicle collaboration. One of the results of this partnership will see Chevrolet reenter the low cab forward medium-duty truck market in 2016 with six new models.
“Bringing low cab forward trucks back to our portfolio strengthens Chevrolet’s commitment to providing commercial customers with more choices and provides customers with a versatile lineup of trucks, vans and crossovers,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president of GM Fleet and Commercial Sales. “This addition helps our dealers satisfy their commercial customers’ needs all in one place.”
The six new low cab forward trucks—the Chevrolet 3500, 3500HD, 4500, 4500HD, 5500 and 5500 HD—are all based upon the Isuzu N-Series. They will be offered in regular-cab and crew-cab body styles and with either GM’s 6.0-liter V8 petrol engine, the Isuzu 3.0-liter turbo-diesel, or Isuzu’s 5.2-liter turbo-diesel engine. The gasoline-powered models will be built in Charlotte, Michigan.
Chevrolet announced that the trucks will offer chassis ranging between 109 inches and 212 inches and will be compatible with a number of body types. More details are expected to be announced closer to the beginning of production.
