The General Motors Foundation has announced that it will provide a total of $100,000 in grants between the American Red Cross and World Food Program USA in order to support recovery efforts in the wake of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal.

General Motors International will also donate $50,000 to the India Prime Minister Relief Fund for direct support. GM has also set up donation portals for its employees to contribute their own monies to relief efforts.

“The sense of purpose to move quickly and answer the call to help when disaster strikes is embedded in General Motors and its Foundation,” said GM Foundation President Vivian Pickard. “We extend our condolences to the thousands of families and communities impacted by this devastating earthquake. We hope that by partnering with these organizations we can do our part to help bring some measure of comfort during these difficult times.”

The earthquake struck Nepal on April 25th, leaving 7,759 people dead, injuring more than 17,000, and displacing more than 450,000.

Other automakers have gotten involved in helping support Nepal. Honda has committed $168,000 in funds toward relief and recovery efforts, and Ford and its employees pledged more than $200,000 in aid.
