Production Version of the Elmiraj

Could we see a production version of the Elmiraj?

GM President, Mark Reuss, calls the Elmiraj concept “the car Cadillac needs,” but is this potential Batmobile the touring coupe that luxury enthusiasts deserve? Some cryptic comments that Reuss recently made to USA Today provide some indication that the luxury brand’s long-bandied halo vehicle will be a production version of the Elmiraj.

“That’s the car Cadillac needs,” Reuss told USA Today during the Los Angeles Auto Show, adding, “You make a statement with a coupe. You don’t make a statement with a sedan.”

The Elmiraj certainly made a statement when it debuted at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance this past August. Robust at 205 inches, the Elmiraj was hailed as “a statement of pure luxury and performance with a purposeful character and proportion.” It came wearing the Vsport badge, earned with the 500-horsepower performance capabilities of its 4.5L V8.

USA Today reminds us that GM CEO, Dan Akerson, made comments in July indicating the production of a flagship rear-drive Caddy bigger than its XTS within the next two years. Reuss’ comments seem to indicate that the Elmiraj will be more progenitor than inspiration for the brand’s halo vehicle.

The revelation of a production version of the Elmiraj would likely provide a considerable boost to Cadillac’s efforts to further expand its global profile. Would you be interested in a full-size rear-drive coupe? Do you think a production version of the Elmiraj would be nothing less than Cadillac’s knight…shining?
