General Motors has announced a recall for a small contingent of its 2014 model year Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs to repair a potential issue involving loose rear brake caliper bolts.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report states that up to ten vehicles may be affected by an issue with rear brake caliper bolts not tightened to specification.  Unaddressed loose brake caliper bolts can reduce braking performance and lead to increased stopping distances, which could potentially increase the risk of an accident.

Potentially affected vehicles are those with the following build dates:

  • 2014 Chevrolet Suburbans manufactured between July 9, 2013 and July 22, 2013GM Recalls 2014 Chevy Suburban
  • 2014 Chevrolet Tahoes manufactured between July 16, 2013 and July 23, 2013
  • 2014 GMC Yukons manufactured between July 13, 2013 and July 18, 2013
  • 2014 GMC Yukon XLs manufactured on July 22, 2013

The report states that GM will notify owners of those vehicles that may be affected, and dealers will inspect the bolts on both rear brake caliper brackets.  Loose bolts will be replaced and tightened at no charge to the owner.
