General Motors and the joint ventures thereof combined to move 2,492,428 vehicles to retail customers in China from January to September, good for a new nine-month record. Retail sales of GM vehicles are up 1.6% through three-quarters of the year thanks to strong demand for luxury vehicles, SUVs, and MPVs.

September sales were down, however, dropping 3.9% year-over-year for a grand total of 295,236 vehicles sold last month. GM notes that while sales were down from 2014, September numbers were up 18.7% from August.

“GM’s product mix has been improving with recently launched models. This has helped us meet consumers’ evolving and diversifying needs,” said GM Executive Vice President and GM China President Matt Tsien. “We anticipate growth in the SUV, MPV and luxury segments representing about 80% of overall growth in the market over the next several years. GM is well-positioned to participate in this growth.”

September highlights include a 170.8% sales increase for GM SUVs and 14.7% increase for Cadillac cars. Over the course of nine months, Cadillac sales are up 12.4% at 56,873 units, Buick sales are up 4% at 669,568 units, and Baojun are up 235.5% at 270,488 units. Wuling sales are down 8.7%, but cumulative sales topped 1,000,000 units in September.
