May was Military Appreciation Month in America, and to celebrate, General Motors Foundation granted $1 million to Habitat for Humanity to fund a number of projects that will ultimately benefit current and former service members of the U.S. Military.

Among the projects announced are 11 home builds in association with Habitat families, all of which will help support the people who proudly serve this country and their families. It will also support two international revitalization projects in Brazil and the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Nepal. Additionally, it will help provide service members and vets with job training necessary to find employment after their service ends.

“A permanent home not only provides stability for families but gives them a sense of belonging in a greater community,” said GM Foundation President Vivian Pickard. “These things are particularly important for our veterans and military service members, and we are committed to helping them – and all of our Habitat partner families – realize home ownership and take advantage of programs designed to move their lives forward in positive ways.”

The construction and vitalization projects will take place in: Tonawanda, New York.; Atlanta, Georgia; Austin, Texas; Flint, Michigan; Wentzville, Missouri; Detroit, Michigan; Columbia, South Carolina; Charlotte, North Carolina; Los Angeles, California; Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Pokhara, Nepal.
