General Motors crossed another incredible milestone this week when the unprecedented 500 million GM-branded vehicle rolled off one of its assembly lines around the world. To celebrate, GM celebrated all around the world, including by giving away a new car to a loyal customer in China.

GM Executive Vice President and President of GM China Matt Tsien awarded a loyal-yet-unnamed customer with a brand-new Chevy Trax. This particular customer was chosen because he has been a brand loyalist since his first vehicle purchase—a Chevrolet Cruze.

“As GM’s largest market for the past five years, China has played a significant role in this incredible milestone,” said Tsien. “Working with our partners and partnerships, we have introduced a broad range of products and services that are meeting the needs of vehicle buyers across the country.”

In the United States, GM CEO Mary Barra and GM North America and Global Chevrolet President Alan Batey provided Iraqi War veteran and Purple Heart recipient Trent Brining with a key to a brand-new 2016 Malibu.

“During 2015, we expect to sell more than 1,000 new vehicles per hour, 24 hours per day,” said Barra. “This adds up to nearly 10 million vehicles, the most in our history. I look at this extraordinary volume as 10 million opportunities to prove what kind of company we are and to say thank you.”

Barra also announced that from May 17-24, all GM salaried and represented employees and retirees can utilize a one-time Customer Appreciation Discount that can be combined with other incentives and offers.
