GM to Increase Crew Cab Output With 2019 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra

Citing a 10% increase in sales over a four-year period, General Motors is planning to increase production capacity for crew cab models of the next-generation 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
Last week at the J.P. Morgan Tech Forum at CES 2018, President of General Motors North America Mark Reuss told reporters that General Motors will be looking to overcome constraints that have limited the production of four-door light-duty pickups, which continue to increase in popularity with drivers and will likely only continue to do so with the introduction of the new Silverado and Sierra.

“We’re solving things like that,” Reuss said. Reuss said that the next-generation Silverado and Sierra will be “more profitable” than the current generation, which should help to offset the reported $3 billion spent to bring GM’s plants up to speed for the start of production on 2019 models.
The Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra crew cab are currently built at its Silao Complex in Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico. According to Reuters, the plant delivered an output of more than 400,000 trucks last year.
Regular cab and double cab models of both the Silverado and Sierra are built in Fort Wayne, Indiana; heavy-duty crew cab trucks are built in Flint, Michigan.
GM would not elaborate further on its plans for expanding crew cab output, but a Chevrolet spokesperson told Automotive News that crew cabs currently account for more than 60% of all GM light-duty pickup sales, up from over 50% in 2013.
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was revealed in Detroit on Sunday; the GMC Sierra 1500 is expected to be revealed at a later date.
