GM Vietnam Volunteers Help Plant 500 Mangrove Plants for World Environment Day
General Motors Vietnam recently partnered with the Center for Marinelife Conservation and Community Development (MCD) to organize the “Protect Mangrove Forests, Adapt to Climate Change” project in Giao Thien Commune, Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province to celebrate World Environment Day 2017.

The program saw 100 representatives from GM Vietnam—including employees, executives, and dealers—team with 200 other volunteers to plant 500 mangrove plants in Xuan Thuy National Park in Nam Dinh. Mangroves were chosen in particular for their effectiveness at cutting pollution and hindering the impact of climate change.
In other events taking place on the same day, GM Vietnam employees and locals took part in a forum entitled “The Role of Mangrove Forests in Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Change Adaptation in Coastal Areas.” GM Vietnam also utilized its partnership with MCD to build a playground in Giao Thien Commune that is constructed from recycled materials.
“Environmental stewardship and sustainability are a part of GM’s business model, and we are focused on creating sustainable solutions to improve the communities in which we live and work. We are striving to contribute to environmental protection in Vietnam—an ecologically diverse country,” said GM Vietnam Managing Director Sumito Ishii.
“This program demonstrates GM Vietnam’s commitment to sustainable development, not only through world-class vehicles that meet all local emissions standards, but also through community-based programs,” Ishii added. “We appreciate the MCD, the Giao Thuy authorities, and all of the volunteers who supported GM Vietnam in this activity.”
GM Vietnam’s World Environment Day 2017 actions were organized as part of the MCD and United State Agency for International Development’s Red River Delta Adaptation and Youth (READY) program.
