GM Vietnam volunteers flash flooding

Around 50 General Motors Vietnam employees and Chevrolet dealership reps participated in a 400-kilometer goodwill journey from October 2 – 3, intended to support the students of two schools in the Mu Chang Chai District of Yen Bai that were affected by flash flooding.

The trip involved seven Chevy Colorado pickup trucks filled with volunteers, supplies, and gifts traveling over rugged terrain to the Na Hang B sub-school of Pung Luong kindergarten and Xeo Di sub-school of Lao Chai primary school. Volunteers—totaling 28 representatives of General Motors Vietnam and 16 representatives from regional Chevrolet dealers—provided everything from blankets and warm clothing to school supplies and food to toys for the approximately 600 students of the two schools.

Volunteers also aided in activities like building a playground from recycled goods, repurposing disused car materials into classroom and playground supplies, and general contributions to the renovation of school facilities.

“We have one of the poorest schools in Mu Cang Chai District. More than 500 students whose homes are tens of kilometers away have to live at the school,” said Bui Cong Ngyuen of Lao Chai primary school. “The new facilities and gifts donated by GM Vietnam will provide a tremendous source of support for students on their educational journey.”

“The recent flash flood caused serious damage to people and property,” said Pham Duc Thinh of Mu Chang Chai District. “We are grateful to the volunteer group of GM Vietnam executives, employees, and dealers for bringing gifts and essential items to help our students.”

GM Vietnam employee and dealer contributions are also being used to help support victims of flash flooding and fund the construction of infrastructure in the wake of tropical storm Dorksuri.
