Team members from General Motors Wentzville Assembly and Stamping lent a hand to their community by volunteering at the annual Elder Court retirement community barbecue earlier this week.

On the menu for the event: pork steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs, fresh fruit and vegetables, salads, and a general feeling of community togetherness.

The barbecue is in its third year, and it has become something of a staple in Wentzville. So much so that residents who could not make it to the festivities had plates of food brought directly to their doors.

Also chipping in were members of UAW Local 2250 and members of the Wentzville Fire and Police Departments.

“The residents look forward to seeing us each summer,” said Tina Hays, chairperson for the UAW 2250 Community Services Committee. “It’s great to serve these folks and be a part of their day.”

GM Wentzville employees will also be volunteering during Elder Court’s Thanksgiving festivities later this year.

“We are glad to serve our neighbors and give back to those who may not be able to enjoy a barbecue on their own anymore,” said Nancy Laubenthal, Wentzville Assembly Plant Manager.  “The barbecue is a good example of how doing the little things can make a big impact in the community.”

Among the products built at Wentzville Assembly are the new GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado.
