GMC Announces Android Auto for Four 2016 Models
GMC has announced that a March 2016 software update will make Android Auto available for 2016 GMC Canyon, Sierra, and Yukon models equipped with the eight-inch IntelliLink system. Customers with eligible vehicles will be able to bring them to their nearest dealerships to have the update installed.
With Android Auto joining Apple CarPlay, announced for GMC models earlier this year, as well as OnStar 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi, GMC’s lineup is among the most technologically savvy on the market.

“Providing Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility ushers in a new era of staying connected in a convenient manner,” said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president, Buick and GMC.
In order to use Android Audio, one need only find the “Projection” icon on the IntelliLink screen, which indicates that there is not a compatible device connected. This icon will become either a CarPlay or Android Auto symbol depending on which device is connected. Compatible Android devices must be running the Android Lollipop 5.0 OS or better, and CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 or newer.
Android Auto supports a number of apps, including Skype, KiK, Text+, TuneIn Radio, Spotify, and Stitcher.
