GMC had a significant presence at the Dubai International Motor Show in November, showcasing products like the 2018 Terrain and 2018 Yukon. The brand also used the event to show off its region-exclusive Desert Fox Middle East Concept Truck, which is based on a 2018 Sierra 1500 and gussied up to resemble the iconic Desert Fox Jimmy.

“While GMC has a very bright future ahead, it is important that we don’t forget where we’ve come from,” said Sajed Sbeih, GMC Middle East’s head of brand. “Having been part of the automotive fabric of the region for over 90 years, we wanted to share this legacy here at the show in the shape of the original Desert Fox Jimmy. At the same time, we wanted to honor our past by updating the Desert Fox for the 21st century, thus creating this Concept Truck exclusively for the Middle East.”

Among the special features distinguishing the Desert Fox Middle East Concept Truck from any ordinary 2018 Sierra 1500 are GM Accessories including a sports bar, performance exhaust system, and LED roof lights. The concept is also upfitted with specially-catered equipment like off-road-ready bumpers, Baja-style fenders, beadlock wheels wrapped in desert terrain tires, and a front recovery winch. The whole package is tied together with the tell-tale Desert Fox stripes, evocative of the classic GMC Desert Fox Jimmy that first hit the scene in 1977.

To help visitors make the distinction, GMC also brought a renovated example of the classic 1979 Desert Fox Jimmy to show off at its booth.
