GMC December Sales

GMC December sales were strengthened by the 2015 Canyon’s best month

GMC ended a huge year in a huge way, tallying 53,038 deliveries in December to close out the year with 501,853 sales. That GMC December sales marked a 23% year-over-year improvement is impressive enough on its own. Taking into account that 53,038 sales is not only the best monthly sales tally that GMC saw in all of 2014, but the best monthly tally that it’s seen in at least five years.

Barring December, GMC hasn’t sold more than 50,000 units in the US in a single month since before 2010 (according to GOOD CAR BAD CAR). In fact, of GMC’s five next-most-successful sales months, four of them occurred in 2014, meaning that 2014 may be the brand’s most significant performance since the recession.

Sales were strong for the Sierra in December, with GMC moving 23,436 units compared to 17,854 units in December 2013 (up 31.3%). The Terrain was up 37.9% with 11,032 sales, the Yukon was up 31.5% with 4,729 sales, and the Yukon XL was up 3.2% with 3,260 sales. The Acadia chipped in 7,323 sales (down 7.6%), and the Savana pitched in 1,725 sales (down 33.3%).

One of the biggest winners in December was the Canyon mid-size pickup. Fresh off of winning the Autoweek Best of the Best/Truck for 2015, the Canyon moved 1,533 units, more than doubling the total that it has sold since originally going on sale in December. The Canyon’s final tally for 2014 stands at 3,070 units sold, which surely promises big things for the year ahead.
