The 2019 Sierra AT4 is GMC’s first off-road vehicle

GMC has announced the 2019 Sierra AT4. It’s the first in a new line of off-road packages for the high-end truck brand.

Monday’s announcement before the New York International Auto Show is a sign that GMC intends to compete with other off-road vehicles like the Ford Raptor and the Jeep.

“The 2019 Sierra AT4 is designed for the customer who wants an elevated presence on the road and the capability to venture off life’s beaten path,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global GMC. “It’s also the beginning for the AT4 brand, which will be seen on every vehicle in our lineup in the next two years.”

The Sierra AT4 comes with a 5.3-liter V8 engine, a 2-inch suspension lift, off-road Rancho shocks, and a four-wheel drive transmission with a two-speed transfer case, locking rear differential and skid plates. Hill Descent Control and a traction selection system for handling a variety of terrains are also included. Wheels are available in 18- or 20-inch designs with all-terrain tires. The AT4 also comes standard with the new six-position GMC MultiPro Tailgate.

Available features for the AT4 include a multi-color heads-up display, a rear camera mirror, a carbon-fiber bed, and an array of advanced safety features such as Surround Vision, Lane Change Alert, and Front Pedestrian Braking. Available 6.2-liter V8 or Duramax 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engines can each be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The AT4’s exterior design includes red tow-hooks, dark exterior finishes, a body-color grille surround, and black chrome finish. The interior includes darkened trim, textured aluminum finishes, and leather-appointed seating.
