GMC Posts Best March Retail Sales Since 2005

GMC had a considerable month of March, both at retail and comprehensively. GMC’s retail sales were up 12.8% last month with a total of 40,318 vehicles delivered, good for the brand’s best March since 2005, and cumulative US sales were up 6.9% at a total of 44,585 vehicles sold.

Through the first quarter of 2016, GMC’s sales are up 1% at a total of 121,048 vehicles sold, while retail sales are up 1.4% with 104,320 vehicles sold across the United States.

A number of GMC’s core models saw sizable sales growth in March, including the Sierra pickup. Sierra sales totaled 21,548 units overall, up 23.9% from the 17,395 trucks sold in March 2015. At retail, Sierra sales were up 27%.

Sales of the GMC Canyon were up 17.8% overall with 2,867 trucks sold; retail sales were up 15%. Yukon sales were up 27.5% at 3,394 units, while Yukon XL sales were up 22.8% at 2,427 units. Retail-wise, both models saw their best March sales since 2008, with sales of the Yukon up 31% and sales of the Yukon XL up 22%.

Acadia sales in March totaled 6,214 units (down 16.1%), Terrain sales totaled 6,891 units (down 14.2%), and Savana sales totaled 1,244 units (down 30.9%).

Through the first quarter of 2016, sales of the Sierra total 51,131 units, up 13.2% from Q1 2015. Canyon sales are up 5.9%, Yukon sales are up 10.8%, and Yukon XL sales are up 11.9%. Acadia sales total 18,571 units (down 8.8%) and Terrain sales total 23,958 units (down 13.6%).
