Update: GMC has released three additional teaser images. Hello, headlamps!

Another Update: And here’s a bunch of photos of the head, the tail, the whole dang thing

A report from The Wall Street Journal in December speculated that both the next-generation Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Terrain would be making their long-anticipated debuts at this month’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Not long thereafter, Chevrolet made good on WSJ’s assumption by previewing the sleek profile of the 2018 Traverse. Now, GMC is getting in on the business of confirming its new take on the Terrain.

GMC on Wednesday made the above post to its Facebook page, promising that “the bar will be elevated, shattered, and left behind.” Wow, what did that bar do to you, GMC?

While the photo is more shadow than substance, it does reveal that the next-generation GMC Terrain will have something that the new 2018 Chevy Equinox does not: a floating roofline. The blacked-out C-Pillar, accentuated by a strip of chrome trim, further suggests that the new Terrain will be anything but a rebadged version of its platform mate.

Where the 2018 GMC Terrain may differ from Chevrolet’s offering in terms of style, it would not be unreasonable to assume that it might follow a similar path with regards to fuel efficient turbocharged powertrains, possibly following suit by offering the choice between 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter turbo engines. The new Equinox is also expected to be offered with a diesel engine option.

Of course, speculating will be short-lived as the new 2018 GMC Terrain will bow on Sunday. Stay tuned.
