The 2015 GMC Yukon was largely responsible for the boost seen in GMC’s April sales.

GMC’s April sales mark the best April that the truck brand has had since 2007, both in terms of U.S. retail sales and U.S. total sales. Retail sales were up 17 percent and total year-over-year sales were up 13 percent.

Both the Yukon and the Yukon XL led the charge for the brand. Year-over-year retail sales were up—are you ready for this?—a whopping 141 percent, while total sales were up 44 percent.

“We are seeing the 2015 Yukon bring back a lot of current GMC customers, but also bring in a significant amount of new buyers, too,” said Chad Hendrix, general manager at Everett GMC in Bryant, Arkansas. “Just in the past week there have been several Lexus trades on new Yukons. It’s a positive mix to see for the brand.”

On average, the Denali version of the 2015 Yukon/XL stays on dealer lots just 10 days, while the segment average is 64.

“Customer response to the new Yukon has been excellent,” said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president of Buick and GMC. “Feedback is consistently calling attention to how quiet, refined, and distinct-looking these new vehicles are. Our engineers and designers did a fantastic job.”

The Sierra line, including the 2014 GMC Sierra and the 2015 Sierra HD, also sale retail and total sales growth, with its best April since 2004. In total, Sierra retail sales shot up 22 percent and total sales 21 percent.
