GM’s Engineering Vice President

In 1979, John Calabrese was an intern, learning all he could at General Motors. Since then, he has risen through the ranks, becoming GM’s Engineering Vice President and one of the leading advocates for the company’s educational outreach. Focusing mostly on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, Calabrese pursues the best future leaders in technology.

“The biggest challenge the industry is facing is stopping the leaky pipeline of talent we have, particularly in the U.S., by developing a pool of highly skilled and creative innovators to carry it into the rapidly evolving future, “said Calabrese in a recent interview. “To achieve this, we need to give students experiences not just equations, and show them how exciting engineering and math-based science can be when you apply basic principles.”

With the goal of igniting interesting in STEM education from the government officials, educators and industry members, Calabrese hopes that we can encourage more students to participate in the Engineering field. After all, as Calabrese says, they are “problem-posers, problem-solvers, designers and future innovators.”
