Maven car sharing service launches in Los Angeles

Go west, young personal mobility brand!

That’s the advice that General Motors’ car sharing service Maven seems to be following. The brand is expanding to the western United States, setting up shop in three more cities: Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

The trio of new markets increases the number of Maven markets to 13. In the last 10 months, the brand has already launched in Ann Arbor, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Jersey City, New York City, Orlando, San Diego, and Washington DC.

In each of the three new cities, Maven customers are able to use the app to reserve a GM vehicle for $8 an hour, which includes insurance and fuel. There are no monthly application or membership fees for users to pay.

In Denver, initial Maven City vehicle locations can be found in Lower Highlands, Lower Downtown, River North, Capitol Hill, Cherry Creek, Broadway, Baker, City Park, Central Business District, Auraria, Cheesman Park, Washington Park, University, Five Points, Speer, Sloan Lake, Jefferson Park and Civic Center. Available models will include the Chevy Volt, Tahoe, Cruze, and Malibu; the GMC Yukon and Acadia; and the Cadillac ATS, CT6, CTS, and Escalade.

To cater to the Denver market, many of the Maven-mobiles are equipped with a ski rack or bike rack.

“We welcome Maven to the Mile High City as a new provider of car-sharing services,” said Crissy Fanganello, Denver’s Director of Transportation and Mobility. “Car share provides another option to get around town, reduces the demand for parking and incentivizes people to explore a car-lite lifestyle.”

In LA, there are 60 Maven vehicles available at 30 Maven City stations, many of which are located downtown, Little Tokyo, South Park, and the University of Southern California campus.

60 vehicles will be available at 30 sites in San Francisco, as well, with an emphasis on the Financial District, Embarcadero, SOMA and the Mission District.
