General Motors South Africa concluded 2015 with sales totaling 5,231 vehicles between the Chevrolet, Isuzu, and Opel Brands. This was good not only for an 18.6% year-over-year sales increase and a 10.6% market share for the month, but also the best monthly result for the entire year.

Even more impressive is the fact that GMSA pulled down these achievements in a month where domestic auto sales in South Africa were down 4.2% year-over-year.

Of the vehicles sold, 2,054 units were Isuzu KBs and just under 1,000 were Chevy Utes. Sales for these models were up 5% and 3%, respectively, and the Isuzu KB scored its best single sales month since 2006.

“2015 was another tough year for the new vehicle market. Industry sales were down 4.1% versus 2014,” said Brian Olson, GMSA vice president, Vehicle Sales, Service, and Marketing. “Fortunately, both Opel and Isuzu bucked this trend. Opel sales volumes ended 2015 up almost 74% vs. the prior year. Isuzu Sales volumes ended 2015 up 4% versus 2014.”

Olson added that GM is expecting additional challenges and slowdowns in 2016.
