Green Car Journal Names Honda HR-V a Finalist for 2016 Green SUV of the Year

Green Car Journal has named the 2016 Honda HR-V crossover a finalist for the publication’s 2016 Green SUV of the Year award. Though it’s not a hybrid or EV, the 2WD HR-V with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) boasts a top fuel economy rating of 35 mpg highway, and is designated as an Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV2 ULEV).

“With class-leading fuel economy ratings and interior space, the Honda HR-V compact crossover is a great choice to replace larger, less fuel-efficient vehicles,” said Honda senior vice president and general manager Jeff Conrad. “The HR-V also fulfills the Honda brand’s promise to deliver both fun-to-drive enjoyment with outstanding fuel efficiency.”
The 2016 Honda HR-V’s all-new CVT is designed to enhance both fuel efficiency and fun-to-drive performance. When equipped with the CVT, the front-wheel-drive HR-V yields an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, while the Real Time AWD HR-V returns a slightly lower 27/32 mpg in city/highway driving. When equipped with front-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission, the HR-V has a city/highway fuel economy rating of 25/34 mpg.
“The Honda HR-V is sporty, right-sized, and fun to drive,” said Green Car Journal editor Ron Cogan. “Its approachable price means a great many drivers have access to a versatile crossover with a top fuel economy rating of 35 mpg.”

The Green SUV of the Year winner will be announced on January 21, 2016, during a press conference at the Washington Auto Show’s Policy Days. The winning vehicle will be honored alongside the magazine’s 2016 Luxury Green Car of the Year and 2016 Connected Green Car of the Year awards.
