Hinrichs: MKS Will Die in 2016, Continental Will Return
The Lincoln MKS will die after 2015, according to Ford President of The Americas Joe Hinrichs
Lincoln has some big lineup changes in store in the next few years, and it’s been well-assumed that one of these changes involves the discontinuation of the MKS in favor of a return for the Continental. According to Joe Hinrichs, this change is going to be happening sooner rather than later.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Hinrichs told media at the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce that production on the MKS at the Chicago Assembly Plant will end next year. In order to prevent a labor cut, Ford’s President of the Americas says that production capacity once used for the MKS will be redirected to accommodate the newly-minted 2016 Explorer.

Ultimately, however, the MKS will be brushed aside in favor of the returning Lincoln Continental, likely heavily influenced by the concept that debuted in New York earlier this year (and not by the fake 2016 Continental that was making the rounds on Facebook last March). Hinrichs did note that production of the Continental will not be relocated at Chicago, which means that its production output will be narrowed to focus entirely on the Ford Explorer and Taurus, as well as the Police Interceptor equivalents thereof.
