Holden Confirms Astra Sportwagon for Late 2017 Launch
Holden has confirmed that it will indeed be importing the Astra Sportwagon from Europe, joining the Astra hatchback and Astra sedan to provide Australian drivers with the most comprehensive small-car range possible.
Set to bow in Australia in late 2017, the Holden Astra Sportwagon is being developed alongside its Opel and Vauxhall counterparts at the former’s headquarters in Russelsheim and built at the former’s Ellesmere Port manufacturing facility in the UK. It will receive additional tuning from Holden’s development team in order to cater it specifically to the needs of drivers down under.
The Astra Sportwagon represents the 13th new Holden vehicle introduced since 2015, joining the Equinox, Acadia, Trax, and recently-revealed Commodore.
New from GM: What makes the next-generation Acadia such a smash hit
“With Astra Sportwagon joining Astra hatch and Astra sedan, we’re making sure there’s an exciting and desirable Holden small car to suit any taste or circumstance,” said Michael Filazzola, Holden’s Executive Director of Sales. “Astra Sportwagon gives customers the best of all worlds with sleek, stylish design and impressive interior space, all supported by a wealth of driving and infotainment technology.”
Going along with the Holden Astra Sportwagon’s sporty appearance is a robust 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that will come standard with stop/start technology and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Its wagon proportions provide a total of more than 1,600 liters of cargo space, making it ideal for long family road trips or trips to the grocery store.
It will also be offered with hi-tech safety features including Auto Emergency Braking, Rear View Camera, Lane Keep Assist, and Forward Collision Alert. In terms of connectivity and convenience, the Astra Sportwagon will come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, passive entry, push-button start, and a hands-free power tailgate.
