Holden Debuts Commodore Supercar on a Float, on a Float, on Sydney Harbor Float
Holden last month showed the world the next-generation Red Bull Holden Racing Team Commodore Supercar in a rather unique fashion: by taking the cover off on a pontoon stage floating in Sydney’s Farm Cove. Set amidst the clear blue waters, and with the world-famous Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge standing pat in the background, the bold new Commodore Supercar was revealed with the help of reigning Supercars champ Jamie Whincup and 2016 Supercars champ Shane van Gisbergen.
“In my world, I consider today a very big deal. We’re not only showing our supporters our 2018 livery, we’re unveiling the new-look, next-generation Commodore supercar. It’s pretty special to be able to do that in this incredible setting,” said Whincup. “We’ve decided to really change it up with the color scheme this year, which looks awesome on the new body shape. We’re obviously hoping it’s a rocket, but I guess we’ll find out in Adelaide in just a few weeks’ time.”
“I’m really looking forward to getting back racing this year, especially with the brand-new body shell on the 2018 Commodore,” said van Gisbergen. “The guys and girls at Triple Eight have been working crazy hard to get our cars ready for the season, so hopefully we can do them and the Commodore nameplate proud this year.”
2018 will mark the second time in the six-year partnership between Red Bull and Triple Eight Race Engineering that a new Commodore has bowed. The last was the VF Commodore, unveiled in 2013 at the start of the partnership, which promptly went on to become the most successful touring car in the country’s history.
The Red Bull Holden Racing Team Commodore Supercar will make its competition debut next month at the Adelaide 500, which kicks off the 2018 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship season.
