Holden teams with The Smith Family

Holden last week announced that it will be partnering with The Smith Family for a fundraising initiative that will see it providing scholarships to nearly five dozen young people in the northern suburbs of Adelaide.

“We have seen the valuable work The Smith Family does in supporting—and nurturing—the education of disadvantaged young Australians right across the country,” said GM Holden Executive Director of Manufacturing Richard Phillips. “So we’ve created this major fundraising opportunity as a terrific way for us to say ‘thank you’ to South Australian families for supporting us for so many years, and allow us to continue to share in supporting some local families and children in need.”

To help fund the scholarships, offered as part of The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program, Holden will auction off three Limited Edition Holden Commodores. “The Commodore Collection”—consisting of a Director V8 automatic, a Motorsport V8 automatic, and a Magnum V8 automatic—will be auctioned on October 15th with the express goal of pulling in $360,000. Further, 50% of the money raised from the auction of the Director V8 will be given to The Lighthouse Foundation, a charity selected by Holden supporter Bev Brock.

“We know how much Australians love their Holden vehicles, and these three are very special,” added Phillips. “So we think they’ll be a huge drawcard for motoring enthusiasts right across the country, and hopefully they’ll inspire some fierce bidding under the hammer.”

Adds The Smith Family General Manager for SA and NT Graham Jaeschke: “We’re delighted to work alongside Holden to support even more disadvantaged young Australians to succeed at school and create better futures for themselves.”
