Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V and Odyssey Remain Segment Leaders
With the final 2014 retail registrations data in from IHS Automotive, Honda can officially brag about four of its models proving to be America’s most popular vehicles in their segments—for the second year in a row. The Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, and Odyssey were all first in their respective categories, according to retail registrations, which also showed Honda as having three of America’s top six best-selling passenger vehicles.
Excluding full-size pickup trucks, the Accord, CR-V, and Civic were the first, third, and fourth best-selling vehicles in retail registration last year.
Also of note: 98% of Honda’s retail registrations in 2014 were to individual buyers, which was the highest of any mainstream brand in America.
“Retail sales are simply a better yardstick for measuring real-world product appeal, and Honda’s focus on retail sales translates to higher resale value and lower lifetime ownership costs for our customers,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division. “We’re looking to build on our retail sales momentum in the light truck category in the year ahead with innovative new products including the new Honda HR-V crossover and redesigned Pilot SUV.”
The Honda Accord, which had 382,535 registrations last year, was America’s most popular car for the second straight year. The CR-V, with 331,706 registrations, was not only the most popular SUV of 2014, but also the best-selling of the past decade. Honda also had the most popular compact car in the Civic (317,025 retail registrations) and the most popular minivan in the Odyssey (119,615).
