Honda and Acura Sales Both Down in November

The 2016 Honda Pilot was one of the automaker’s few bright spots in November

American Honda Motor Co. had a disappointing November, with sales of 115,441 Honda and Acura vehicles representing a 5.2% decrease in sales when compared to the company’s record-setting November 2014.

Fortunately, the Happy Honda Days of December should help the Honda brand rebound from its 4% decline. But the Acura brand, which tumbled a full 18% last month, may want to consider getting a seasonal sales special of its own (an eight-day celebration known as Hanacurah, the Festival of Headlights, perhaps?)

Two bright spots for Honda were the Civic, which posted an 8.6% month-over-month sales increase on sales of 25,050 units, and the new Pilot, which rose 19% on sales of 10,975 units.

“It is incredibly gratifying to see our customers embrace the all-new Pilot and Civic,” said Honda senior VP Jeff Conrad. “We are going to race to the finish in the effort to earn a record number of new customers this year.”

Every single vehicle in the Acura lineup posted month-over-month sales decreases, with the lone exception being the perennially popular RDX, which was up 7.4%. The RDX and MDX are fast approaching the 100,000-unit mark for 2015, and despite the dour November, Acura truck sales remain on pace for a record year.

“With the Acura brand on track for our fifth consecutive year of increased sales and our best annual sales total since 2007 we continue to build strong momentum toward next year’s celebration of Acura’s 30th anniversary,” said Jon Ikeda, vice president and general manager of the Acura division. “We also recognize and embrace the challenges of an ultra-competitive luxury market as we sharpen our portfolio with products like the technologically advanced NSX and continue to build the brand with highly desirable vehicles throughout the lineup.”
