Honda and Acura Trucks Set New Sales Record
The new 2016 Honda Pilot had its first full month of sales in July
American Honda Motor Company has announced a 7.7% sales increase in the month of July 2015, based on sales of 146,324 Honda and Acura vehicles. Leading the charge for the Japanese automaker were Honda and Acura trucks, which combined for a whopping 70,613 vehicles, representing a 13.2% increase and a new July truck sales record.
Honda trucks accounted for 61,059 of those 70k sales, with models like the eternally-popular CR-V crossover (over 31,000 units sold in July), the 2016 Pilot (nearly 10,000 units) and the all-new HR-V (5,909) all enjoying a good month. The Honda Odyssey minivan also made significant gains, increasing 17.8% on sales of 31,785.
“This is not only the strongest lineup of Honda light trucks in our history, from top to bottom it is one of the hottest lineups in the industry’s hottest segment—trucks,” said Honda Division senior VP Jeff Conrad. “What feels really good is that Honda automobiles are also showing considerable strength, even with the new 2016 Accord and all-new Civic on the horizon.”
The Honda Civic’s 31,139 sales last month represented a nice 3.7% increase. And while the Accord’s numbers were slightly down by 1.6%, over 34,000 units were still sold.
The 2016 Acura RDX
As usual, Acura’s sales were primarily fueled by the MDX (4,977 units) and the RDX (4,577), with the latter seeing an impressive 29.6% sales increase. Acura’s sedans posted a very good July as well, up 101.7% for the month with sales of 5,361 units.
“With Acura sedan sales continuing to strengthen, the Acura brand is on its strongest footing in years,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda. “With both sedans and trucks clicking with luxury buyers Acura is on pace for our best sales year in nearly a decade.”
