Honda associates at the company’s engine plant in Anna, Ohio, are celebrating the construction of its 25 millionth engine since the facility first opened in 1985. The engine plant is Honda’s largest in the world and was opened in 1985. It recently received a $47 million investment to help prepare for the all-new 2018 Honda Accord and since 1985 represents a $2.7 billion investment by the Japanese automaker.

“Building 25 million engines is not just a major production milestone, but symbolic of the passion and commitment invested by our associates, past and present, to satisfy 25 million customers,” said Paul Dentinger, plant manager of the Anna Engine Plant. “We continue to invest in our plant and our people to build a new generation of Honda engine products for customers here and around the world.”

The 25 millionth engine in question was one of the two 1.5-liter, direct-injected, turbocharged VTEC four-cylinder engine that will be available in the 2018 Honda Accord, which will also be offered with a 2.0-liter i-VTEC Aktinson Cycle engine on the hybrid model.

The Accord into which the engine will feature will be assembled at the company’s Marysville Auto Plant, just 43 miles east of Anna. Engines and components built at the Anna facility are shipped to 14 locations around the world, including Ohio, Indiana, Alabama, and Canada to help build Honda and Acura products. The plant also builds the turbocharged engine that powers the Honda Civic Type R hot hatchback.

Though the plant reached the 25 million milestone in 32 years, it will only be another 21 before it reaches the 50 million mark at its current pace: a whopping 1.18 million engines built each year.
