Honda is winning the battle for the hearts and minds of Millennials—and they’re doing so without actually having to release that ridiculous, youth-oriented HR-V “Selfie Edition.”

The Japanese automaker recently announced that over the past 11 years, the Accord and Civic have been the two best-selling cars with Americans under the age of 35. From 2004 to 2014, the two vehicles had over one million combined registrations to Millennials, which is more than any other two cars in the automotive industry. (Eat your heart out, Chevy!)

According to data from IHS Automotive, the Honda Civic was #1 in retail sales to under-35 car buyers from 2007 to 2013.  In 2014, the Civic was bumped down to second place by the Accord, which reclaimed the #1 position that it had previously held from 2004 to 2006.

The 2015 Honda Civic’s success with youths proves it’s hip to be square

“Honda is a company with a youthful spirit, and that comes through strongly in our products and our appeal with younger buyers,” said John Mendel, Executive Vice President of American Honda. “The epic new Civic that we’re launching this fall, together with all-new products like the HR-V crossover coming this spring and the new Fit, will really strengthen our relationship with young buyers in the days ahead.”

Millennials will probably be even more enamored with the upcoming Civic, which Honda promises will be the sportiest model yet—both in design and performance—and will also be offered in a Type R version. If there’s one thing that should (hopefully) capture the attention of young folks, it’s a return to Honda’s performance roots.
